Hello wonderful families!

I wanted to take a moment to tell you about some exciting news! Maple Star is starting a book club!  This book club is open to all foster parents, whether with Maple Star or other agencies (if you are certified through a different agency, chat with your certifier to discuss what training hours you can receive by participating with us). We will be reading books that will help us become more trauma informed, better educated around trauma and the brain, and excel at fostering.

Our discussions will take place online through our Facebook group. You can request to join at https://www.facebook.com/groups/1124100237939732/?source_id=146066888785714. The first book we are reading and discussing is Hardwiring Happiness by Rick Hanson, Ph.D. You can order the book through Amazon at https://www.amazon.com/Hardwiring-Happiness-Science-Contentment-Confidence/dp/B00EZ5EC96/ref=sr_1_1?crid=1B7K0NNK692YS&dchild=1&keywords=hardwiring+happiness&qid=1588959059&sprefix=hardwiring+%2Caps%2C230&sr=8-1

Maple Star families will earn 5 training hours for reading the book, filling out the book report form and engaging in two discussion posts. That is a big chunk of your required 12 yearly training hours! We will be discussing the first two chapters of the books starting on June 1st and discuss the next two chapters the following week, etc. Discussion questions will be posted on each Monday of the week.

I am so excited to be reading and learning alongside you! Feel free to email me any questions or comments (amelia.bambam@pathways.com) you may have about this new training opportunity! See you June 1st for our first round of discussion questions J
